The closing mass at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Auburn Township was part funeral and part celebration for most of the 200 or so gathered Sunday morning.

Manarchuck, it was heavy duty ritual as a celebration of Eucharistic communion gave way to a closing ritual procession to the church’s baptismal font, bell tower, confessionals, stations of the cross, votive candles, altar of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Ambo, the Tabernacle and finally to the Altar.

A 60-year-old Susquehanna County man was assaulted and robbed by two men at his home Sunday, state police at Gibson said.
The men forced their way into Robert Laman's residence along Route 858 in Apolacan Twp. when he answered a knock at his front door about 10:40 p.m., state police said.

Elk Lake High School student Justin Stewart recently placed in the top 10 at the national Skills USA competition last week in Kansas City, Mo.
Stewart, 18, finished in ninth place in the cabinet-making program out of 43 competitors.
