Locals compete at Lady Tiger tournament

Three Susquehanna country schools took part in the Tunkhannock Lady Tiger Invitational volleyball tournament on Saturday, with all three teams missing the cuts for the tournament finals.

The team that fared the best was Mountain View, which had a 2-6 record in its pool consisting of Tunkhannock, Montrose, Nanticoke and Sayre.

The Eagles took a pair of first round losses to Tunkhannock 14-25 and 22-25, before moving on to defeat Montrose 27-25 and 25-15 in the second round.

Third round action saw the Eagles face 20-25 and 14-25 losses to Nanticoke before falling 9-25 and 20-25 to Sayre in the final round.

Montrose took first round losses to Tunkhannock 10-25 and 16-25 before being defeated 25-27 and 15-25 by Mountain View.

In the third round, the Meteors lost 18-25 and 9-25 to Nanticoke before falling 17-25 and 16-25 to Sayre, posting an 0-8 record in the tourney.

Elk Lake also participated in the Lady Tiger tournament, where it faced 25-7 and 25-9 losses to Towanda in the first round, followed by 25-21 and 25-18 losses to Abington.

The Warriors moved on to play Dunmore and lost 25-13 and 25-10 before falling 25-20 and 26-24 to Troy in the final pool play round.

In junior varsity action, Elk Lake’s Warriors finished off 3-5 in pool play for the day, missing the cuts for playoffs.

The Warriors were defeated 25-15 and 25-17 by Tunkhannock in the first round before taking a 25-22 win, along with a 25-22 loss from Lake-Lehman.

Elk Lake then went on to face Montrose, where it took a pair of wins, 25-21 and 25-18.

In the final round of pool play, the Warriors were handed two losses from Sayre, 25-10 and 25-16.

Montrose went 0-6 in JV pool play taking 13-25 and 16-25 losses from Tunkhannock, 21-25 and 18-25 losses to Elk Lake and 22-25 and 16-25 losses to Sayre.

In both JV and varsity, Tunkhannock went on to win the tournament, posting 12-1 records at both levels.
