Tigers swamp Elk Lake swimmers

The Tunkhannock Area boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams took a pair of victories over Elk Lake in Tunkhannock on Thursday.

The Tiger boys picked up a 120-51 victory while the Lady Tigers grabbed a 119-66 win over the Warriors.

Tunkhannock girls’ coach Marion Austin was also recognized during the meet when it was announced that she would retire from coaching the Lady Tigers after 11 years.

*Chelsea Karabin took the 50 freestyle in a time of 25.39, one-hundredth of a second ahead of TA’s Stephanie Dymond whose time set a new girls’ team record for Tunkhannock

*Adam Phillips set a pool record winning the 100 breaststroke with a 1:00.66 finish, 13 seconds ahead of TA’s Gerald Kanyok. Phillips also took the 100 freestyle event in 49.66 seconds, less than a second over TA’s Ben Phillips.

*Dylan Simmons won the boys’ one meter diving event, 155.25-107.55 over TA’s Luke Cruver.

*Abby Zdancewicz took the 500 freestyle event, in 5:41.03, 21 seconds ahead of TA’s Kandis Venn.

*Brad Grosvenor took the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.81 less than a second ahead of TA’s Joe Moffitt.
