EL girls 4th; BR girls 8th in Class AA

Elk Lake’s girls’ track and field team led the way in Class AA for local teams as the Lady Warriors picked up fourth place with 68 points.

The Lady Warriors won two relay gold medals, while Blue Ridge’s girls followed with an eighth place team finish at 31 points.

The Elk Lake team of Cassie VanEtten, Emily Williams, Elizabeth Trowbridge and Maria Trowbridge won the 3200, and the team of Kelsie Hermick, Kirsten Hollister, VanEtten and Williams won the meet’s final event, the 1600 relay, after Montrose’s winning team was disqualified because it did not start the race with the baton.

Blue Ridge’s Allison Hall leads the pack in the 800 as she is trailed by Montrose’s Samantha Bennici. Hall took first at 2:19.71 while Bennici took third.

“I am so excited,” said VanEtten, who also won individual silver in the 400. “It was awesome. First the 3200 relay, then to finish with the 1600 relay, it’s just awesome.”

Adding to the gold medal haul was Blue Ridge’s Allison Hall, who took gold in the 800 at 2:19.71.

Blue Ridge’s Katie Drake grabbed silver in the pole vault, as Elk Lake’s Maria Trowbridge took second in the 3200.

Montrose’s Alex Lewis took bronze in the high jump to pace the Meteor girls.

JAVELIN: Chelsea Karabin of Elk Lake took fourth at 102-6, 22 feet behind top finisher Emily Hughes of Holy Cross.

DISCUS: Blue Ridge’s Holly Holbrook took eighth at 90-0 behind top finisher Fallyn Boich of Holy Redeemer at 107-7.

1600: Maria Trowbridge of Elk Lake finished second at 5:18.1, 15-hundredths of a second behind Marissa Durako of Holy Redeemer. EL’s Abby Zdancewicz took seventh at 5:45.05; EL’s Lainey Bedell took eighth at 5:51.06.

400: EL’s Cassie VanEtten took second at 59.64 behind top finisher Lauren Ellsworth of Lackawanna Trail at 57.53 (meet record; old mark, 57.54. Montrose’s Allison Lewis was third at 1:00.81; EL’s Kelsie Hermick took sixth at 1:01.49.

HIGH JUMP: Montrose’s Alex Lewis took third place at 4-8 behind top finisher Olivia Jendrezjeski of Hanover at 5-0. Meteor Emmie Gibson took fourth at 4-6, followed by teammate Nicole Lewis in fifth at 4-6.

400 RELAY: Blue Ridge finished in third place at 52.01, followed by Montrose in sixth at 52.86.

300 HURDLES: Cassy Salsman of Elk Lake took fifth at 50.63, 2.9 seconds behind top finisher Nikki Black of Northwest. EL’s Cindy Good finished eighth at 51.20.

800: Blue Ridge’s Allison Hall took first place at 2:19.71. Montrose’s Sam Bennici took third at 2:26.94.

SHOT PUT: Megan Bush of Elk Lake took fourth at 31-0.5, 6.5 feet behind top finisher Madison Lavery of Meyers.

200: Montrose’s Alex Lewis took fourth at 27.12 behind first place finisher Nikolette McCloe of Holy Cross at 26.5. Blue Ridge’s Kailey Ragard took seventh at 28.11.

3200: Maria Trowbridge of Elk Lake took second at 11:58.96, 38 seconds behind Marissa Durako of Holy Redeemer.

1600 RELAY: Elk Lake’s team of Cassie VanEtten, Kirsten Hollister, Emily Williams and Kelsie Hermick took first at 4:09.29. Blue Ridge took fifth at 4:18.20.
