The Mountain View girls’ volleyball team is coming off an 11-5 finish in the 2010 campaign and a berth into the District II Class A finals where the team was defeated in five sets by Lackawanna Trail.

Coach Abby Barrett said that after losing six players including several starters, the Eagles are a young team.

“There are a lot of young players stepping up this year,” Barrett said. “But we have some reliable senior leadership and some veteran players.”

Barrett said that the team is trying to get the young players some experience, and get them ready to step up to the next level to help the Eagle team compete.

The Meteors return only three starters to the lineup in seniors Melissa Monahan and Dominique Chadwick and junior Kerri Jarnigan.

In order to get to another berth into the playoffs, the Eagles will have to get past a tough league includingDunmore, Lackawanna Trail andForestCity.

“Our division is tough,” Barrett said. “It’s difficult to say, it could be anybody’s night.”

Barrett said she will look to Monahan and Chadwick to provide leadership for the team and to be solid players.

“They are both great players,” Barrett said. “Solid, consistent and reliable.”

The Mountain View girls’ varsity volleyball team is comprised of seniors Monahan, Chadwick and Angel Kester, juniors Jarnagin, Kari Zupanovich, Katie Valentine, Michala Zeck, Ashley Mesach, Vanessa Sedelnick, Victoria Buckley, Brooke Colombo and Taylor Nally, sophomores Micaela Phillips, Sarah Nichols, Racheal Bruzgulis, Jillian Kochmer and Christine Zeck, and freshman Hayley Maloney.
