Lady Eagles defeat Montrose, Carbondale

Mountain View’s girls’ soccer team took a 3-0 win at Montrose Area on Friday and an 8-0 victory overCarbondaleat home on Wednesday afternoon.

Facing Montrose, Sara Pulice scored the Eagles’ first goal off an assist from Makenna Whitaker at 24:54 in the first half.

After Montrose was charged with an own goal at 27:48, the Eagles led 2-0 at the half.

Jenny Molenko then capped off Eagle scoring with an assist from Alix Taylor at 79:56 in the second half.

The Eagles had 16 shots on goal and seven corners, while Montrose had 13 shots and five corners.

Mountain Viewgoalie Caity Tague and Montrose goalie Anna Churco each had 12 saves on the day.

AgainstCarbondale, Whitaker opened up scoring at7:43in the first half with an assist from Molenko, before Molenko would add a goal of her own at16:46with an assist from Stephanie Virbitsky to make it 2-0.

Pulice then added a goal with an assist from Megan Getz at17:37, followed by an Azylon Dougher goal with an assist from Alix Taylor at 39:00 to end the first half.

In the second half,Taylorhad a goal off a pass from Mellissa Walker at 46:22 before Pulice would score a pair of goals off passes from Virbitsky at 48:28 and 52:03 to complete a hat trick and make it 7-0.

The final blow toCarbondalecame at 59:13, when Traci Kromko knocked in a goal with an assist from Pulice.

Mountain Viewtook 46 shots on goal and had 10 corners while Tague had three saves on the game.


The Montrose Area girls’ soccer team defeatedCarbondaleon the road, 3-0, on Thursday and took a commanding 9-1 victory overDunmorein a home game on Tuesday evening.

On Thursday, Sarah Lundy scored twice and Myra Lattimore added another score to lead Montrose over the Chargerettes.

Montrose had 21 shots on goal and 10 corners.

Against Dunmore, Nicki Lewis scored in the first off an assist from Lindsay Gregory at 6:34 to start off scoring before Gregory scored an unassisted goal at6 30:23, followed by a Hannah Dieck goal with an assist from Lattimore at 38:00.

In the second half, Lundy scored at 40:12 off a Gregory assist. Gregory then scored at 55:00 off a Meghan Gilhool assist to make it 5-0.

Lattimore chipped in off Lewis at 61:00, Gregory completed her hat trick at 66:00 with an assist from Garza.

Mara Blachek made it an 8-0 game at 72:00 with an unassisted goal, beforeDunmore’s Delia Carr would score the team’s only goal of the game with a penalty kick at 75 minutes.

Fally Gurn then completed the Meteors’ scoring run with an assist from Blachek at 77:14.

Montrose had 24 shots on goal and three corners while Meteor goalie Emily Poirer had two saves on goal.

Forest City

ForestCity’s girls’ soccer team picked up a 3-0 shutout win overDunmoreon the road on Wednesday afternoon.

Kara Zerby kicked off scoring at 11 minutes with an assist from Kylie Borick before Taylor-Ray Tammero scored with an assist from Borick at 15 minutes to make it 2-0 at the half.

After the break, Carly Erdmann scored the Foresters’ third goal in the shutout win at 62 minutes with an assist from Meagan Goben.

The Lady Foresters took 16 shots on goal and had 10 corners while goalie Kaylie Gigliotti had three saves on the day.
