Meteor stickgals face pair of losses

The Montrose Area field hockey team faced a 7-0 loss at home on Wednesday to Pittston and was handed a 3-1 loss from Berwick on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

Against Pittston, the Patriots scored five first half goals to put the Meteors at a 5-0 deficit at halftime, before chipping in a pair of goals in the second half to hand Montrose the 7-0 loss.

Montrose took four shots on goal and had two corner kicks while Taylor Wright had nine saves on goal.

On Tuesday, Berwick’s Kelsey Rinehimer scored at 20:06 in the first half before Montrose’s Katie Stranburg would knock in a goal at 18:08 with an assist from Anna Hamernick to make it a 1-1 game.

However, a pair of goals from Berwick’s Brittany Fisher and Ashton Mensinger in the second half doomed the Meteors.

Montrose had 17 shots on goal and seven corners while Wright had eight saves on goal for the meteors.
