Warrior hockey opens strong

The Elk Lake field hockey team posted a pair of victories to start off the season as the Warriors defeated Hanover, 2-1, on Monday, and took a 3-1 victory over Tunkhannock on Thursday.

On Monday, CJ Bevan hit the back of the cage with five seconds remaining on a penalty corner to lift the Warriors atHanover.

Hanoverstruck first with a goal from Troy Malia at 26:50 in the first half to leave the Warriors trailing at halftime.

However, a goal from Dylan Simmons with4:55remaining in the second half, followed by Bevan’s goal carried the Warriors.

ElkLakehad six shots on goal and 12 corners while goalie Brooke Seamans had five saves.

Against Tunkhannock,ElkLake’s Dakotah Sherman struck first in the first half with five minutes remaining on the clock to make it a 1-0 contest, before Tunkhannock’s Liz Franko would score before the half to leave the game at 1-1 at halftime.

After the break,ElkLakeadded had goals from Bevan at15:38followed by a goal from Simmons at12:52to seal the victory over Tunkhannock Area.

In the contest,ElkLakehad three corners and Seamans had five saves.

ElkLakeis currently 2-0 on the season.
