Warriors, Meteors at doubles championships

Tunkhannock and Elk Lake both competed in the PIAA District II Class AA tennis doubles championships at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

Competing for Montrose was Megan Hinds and Gracee Bulger who took a first round victory over Brina Platt and Lisa Chihorek from Wyoming Area 6-3, 6-2.

The team was then handed a 6-3, 6-0 loss from Melissa Tucker and Bridget Boyle of Dallas in the second round to be eliminated.

Also competing for the Meteors were Ceara Hartman and Jen Reed who faced a 7-6, (7-2), 6-2 loss in the first round to Holy Redeemer’s Shaina Dogherty and Allison Muth to face elimination.

For Elk Lake, Megan Bush and Lydia Watkins advanced past the play-in round on Tuesday at Kirby Park defeating Galen Mayorowski and Lindsey Greenwood of Holy Cross, 6-0, 6-1.

The duo was then defeated in the second round by Wyoming Seminary’s Nathalie Joanlanne and Sheena Syal, 6-0, 6-0.

Also competing from Elk Lake were Hannah Cave and Taylor Watkins who were defeated in the first round by Wyoming Seminary’s Emma Spath and Jane Henry, 6-3, 6-2.
