EL swimmers return to pool
BY KEVIN WOODRUFF
Elk Lake’s swimming and diving teams coached by Ed Murach (swimming) and Jim Phillips (diving) finished out the 2010-11 campaign with 2-5 record for both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
The team will look to improve upon last year’s record, however, will struggle to fill a few spots on the girls’ side after losing three to graduation.
“Our girls’ team is fairly inexperienced,” coach Murach said. “It’s definitely a rebuilding year.”
However, the team returns state medalist Adam Phillips and district medalist Abby Zdancewicz to the roster, who will help the team along.
“Abby was a district runner up in the 500 and medaled in the 200,” Murach said. “And I think that she can improve on that this year.”
As for Phillips, Murach said he expects the senior to have success again this season.
“We’re returning most of the team and bringing back Adam who should place high on the podium,” Murach said.
Also returning for the boys are senior Cody Mowry and junior Brad Grosvenor.
On the girls’ side, senior Rachel Grosvenor, junior Kyla Riley and sophomore Sonny Griffiths are back.
Murach said the Warriors will take no team for granted on the schedule this year.
“I think every team in our league will provide us a challenge this season,” Murach said.
