Runners named All-Region




Several Elk Lake cross country runners have been named to the Scranton Times-Tribune All-Region team.

Being selected for the team were Luke Jones, Will Bennett, Maria Trowbridge and Jenny VanEtten.

Jones was selected for the team as the Runner of the Year.

He won seven races during the Lackawanna League season, won the Lackawanna County Commissioners Invitational in15:31, placed fourth at the PIAA Foundation blue race in16:52.

Jones also repeated as District II Class AA champion in16:45. He then finished second in Class AA at the PIAA Championships in16:17. This is his second all-region berth.

Bennett, a senior, had five second-place finishes during the Lackawanna League season, he placed third in the Lackawanna County Commissioners’ Invitational in16:17.

He also finished 13th in the PIAA Foundation blue race in 17:33, but missed out on a trip to the state meet after finishing 36th in the District II Class AA championship in 19:18.

Trowbridge, a senior, had two wins, three seconds and one third to help the Lady Warriors win the league title.

She took fourth at the County Commissioners Invitational in19:25, and placed 18th at the PIAA Foundation blue race in21:14.

Trowbridge took 16th in District II AA in21:37, earned a medal at the PIAA Championships by finishing 11th in AA in19:39and helped theElkLakegirls placed second in the state.

VanEtten, a freshman, had two wins, two seconds and two third for the unbeaten league champions. She finished third in the Lackawanna County Commissioners Race in19:17, placed 12th at the PIAA Foundation race at20:58, took third in District II Class AA in20:26and earned a PIAA medal by taking 15th at19:44while the team took second.
