Man on bath salts charged with assault

A Montrose-area man told police he was using bath salts when he allegedly beat up his pregnant girlfriend March 14 in Dimock Twp.

Aggravated assault and simple assault charges were filed against Clinton Johnson, 31.

Johnson is being held on $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 26.

According to the affidavit, Johnson’s girlfriend told police he had beat her and that he had been doing bath salts for four days prior to the incident.

She also told police she was about seven months pregnant.

The woman told police Johnson started an argument with her early in the morning, Wednesday, March 14 and accused her of cheating on him.

She told police he then started hitting her; banged her head on the floor and kicked her in the head.

In the affidavit, police noted the woman had trouble speaking due to an injury in her mouth area.

The woman was treated for her injuries at Endless Mountains Health Systems, Montrose.

She told police the doctor who examined her told her that her jaw was fractured. She also told police that the baby appeared to be okay but she had not yet visited her obstetrician.

According to the affidavit, Johnson admitted that he had, in fact, hit the woman and that he was under the influence of bath salts at the time.
