Man sentenced in scrap thefts

A 20-year-old Hallstead man said he regretted his actions – breaking into a business and stealing piping and copper wiring to sell as scrap for drug money – at his Thursday sentencing hearing in Susquehanna County Court.

Patrick Moser will serve 11 to 23-1/2 months in jail on one felony theft count and a concurrent sentence of five years probation on another felony count of theft.

Moser admitted to breaking into theECOInternational building in Great Bend Twp. on two separate occasions to steal piping and copper wiring. The thefts damaged machinery at the facility.

He was also ordered by President Judge Kenneth Seamans to pay $12,500 in restitution toECOInternational, of Vestal, N.Y.

Charges are still pending in the case against Moser’s co-defendant, Daniel Alicea.
