Sex offender jailed for corruption

A Susquehanna man was sentenced Thursday on corruption and indecent exposure counts stemming from an incident that occurred over seven years ago in New Milford Twp.

Larry Phillips Jr., 42, will serve 11-1/2 to 23-1/2 months on the corruption of minors count, with five years probation – to run consecutive to the prison time – on the indecent exposure charge.

The negotiated plea was handed down by President Judge Kenneth Seamans.

Phillips had been assessed as a sexually violent predator in connection with a June 2003 aggravated indecent assault case. He was sentenced to serve five years on the charge. Since his release from prison in 2009, Phillips has been on state supervision and undergoing counseling.

Public Defender Linda LaBarbera asked to court to consider allowing a weekly or bi-weekly furlough for Phillips to continue with his counseling sessions during his time of incarceration.

The incident Phillips was sentenced for Thursday inSusquehanna County Courtoccurred prior to the 2003 conviction.

The victim, who took the stand at the March 2011 preliminary hearing in New Milford District Court, said she was about three or four years old at the time of the incident.

In May 2004, Phillips had been sentenced to serve up to five years in prison on a aggravated indecent assault charge that stemmed from a June 2003 incident in Great Bend.
