Meteors fall in AA semifinal

The Montrose Area baseball team was handed its first loss of the season on Wednesday in the District II Class AA semifinal against Holy Cross, 7-4.

At Montrose, the Meteors ended the season at 16-1 after Holy Cross put them behind early with a 3-0 deficit in the top of the first inning.

Montrose chipped away at the Crusader lead with a pair of runs in the third and one in the fifth to tie things up at three apiece.

However, Holy Cross scored four more runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 7-3 game.

Montrose threatened in the bottom of the seventh, scoring one run, but could not overcome the Crusader lead.

Dale Harder had a pair of RBIs and Casey O’Reilly had two hits and drove in a run to lead the Meteors.

Matt Lewis, Justin Hartman and Zach Loomis each knocked a single and scored a run, and Mike Rapisardi had an RBI for Montrose.

Jared Winn took the pitching loss, giving up 11 hits, four earned runs and a walk in five-and-one-third innings.

Rapisardi took the mound in relief of Winn and gave up one hit, one run and a walk while striking out three in one-and-two-thirds innings.
