Montrose Legion splits doubleheader
The Montrose Post 154 Senior Legion baseball team went 1-1 in a doubleheader with Hamlin at home on Saturday winning the first game 5-0, and falling 16-11 in the second.
In the opening game, Kory Stimmel fired a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to lead the team.
Montrose scored a run in the third, one more in the fourth and three runs in the fifth while stifling the Hamlin offense to take the win.
Justin Hartman doubled and drove in two runs for Montrose. Mike Hackett and Nick Myers each grabbed doubles in the victory.
In the nightcap, Montrose fell behind early as Hamlin scored five runs in the first inning, and added two more in the top of the second to make it a 7-0 game.
Montrose scored one in the second and four in the third to bring the tally to 7-5, but Hamlin struck back tacking on four more runs in the third to make it 11-5.
Montrose then scored a pair of runs in the fourth before Hamlin would again increase its lead with three runs in the sixth to bring it to 14-7.
Three runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh still wasn’t enough for Montrose to win the game as Hamlin scored two more in the seventh to take the 16-11 win.
Mike Rapisardi went three-for-three with two doubles and four RBIs for Montrose while Hackett added a double.
Rapisardi took the pitching loss giving up two hits, three runs and two walks while striking out two in two innings.
Myers had two singles, a run scored and three RBIs for Montrose.
