Missing boy found


A four-year-old, autistic boy went missing in Springville Twp., Monday, June 25, for about three hours before he was located, unharmed, by law enforcement authorities.

The boy had been playing in his yard with his cousins while being watched by his mother and aunt. The adults saw him playing near the woods and then he was gone. Police were notified about one hour after the boy went missing.

State Police, including Troop 2 piloted by Cpl. Kenny Martin, searched the rugged terrain in the area.

Police were assisted by the Susquehanna County Sheriff’s Department with the county K-9 officer.

Large numbers of Springville,ElkLake, United, Meshoppen fire companies and Montrose Minute Men personnel assisted with the Susquehanna Communications Trailer conducting an coordinated ground search.

The boy was found by Tpr. Craig Purdum and Sheriff Lance Benedict. He was walking barefoot, had traveled about a half-mile down a mountain, across a creek and up the adjacent mountainside.

One trooper suffered a knee injury after falling off a steep ravine while searching for the boy. The trooper was transported by ambulance toCMC,Scranton, for treatment.
