KLR crowns Miss Independence Day

This year the Montrose area Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary (KLR) Clubs debuted a new highlight of the Montrose 4th of July festivities – the Miss Independence contest.
On Thursday, Kiwanis member Ed Dewitt, along with Fred Mack of the Lions Club and Rex Catlin of the Rotary announced the Caitlyn Daly had been selected to as KLR’s first “Miss Independence Day.”
In addition to club and the Miss Independence Day committee members, friends and family members joined Daly, an incoming senior atMontroseAreaHigh School, at a crowning ceremony held Thursday at the Montrose VFW. She is the daughter of Charles and Linda Daly.
In addition to maintaining an excellent grade point average, Daly is a member of the Spanish Club, ACTA, Concert Choir, Varsity Club, Read Across America, Student Council and is also a member of both the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society.
She has been a football and wrestling cheerleader for the past three years and is a member of the Track and Field team. She has also taken dance lessons for the past 11 years.
Daly has been a Relay for Life team member for two years; has helped distribute Buddy Poppies for VFW Post 5642 for four years.
She has also been a member of the United Fire Co., Montrose, for nearly four years. Daly has competed over 60 hours ofPennsylvaniaStateFireAcademytraining and has received training in HazMat Awareness, as well as Lifeflight Helicopter Landing Safety and Dispatch.
Daly’s future plans include attending college to pursue a degree in Nursing.
Jessica Sheridan, who served on the Miss Independence Day committee, said, “Caitlyn clearly demonstrates our desire to see our local youth excel in academics as well as participating in community service.”
Dewitt said “(Daly) exemplifies what (the Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary Clubs) are all about – service and service to others.”
Sheridan, a past Harford Fair Queen, presented Daly with the Miss Independence Day crown and sash, as well as a bouquet of flowers.
Daly will be featured on a float in the Montrose 4th of July parade which steps off Wednesday at11 a.m.; she will also be on the Green following the parade; and will make an appearance during the fireworks display, July 4, at dusk at theMontroseAreaHigh School.
