The Montrose Area football team, now infused with athletes fromElkLake, will look to compete in Lackawanna League Division III.

The team, coached by second-year coach Russell Canevari, finished with an 0-10 record last year, but looks to improve.

“We’re hoping the kids will stay healthy,” Canevari said. “And that we can win Lackawanna League Division III.”

The team lost 10 seniors to graduation, but return several players to the starting lineup including quarterback Dylan Heeman, quard Nick Moore, fullback John Lawson, tight end Brenton Warner, linebacker Evan Castrogiovanni, center Dale Harder, center Will Ely and defensive end Trevor Tompkins.

Even with many returning starters, the Meteors will have tough competition to contend with.

“The league is very competitive, so all the teams will be tough,” Canevari said. “But Old Forge looks like the team to beat.”

Montrose will look to Lawson, Warner and Heeman to anchor the Meteor team.

“They (Lawson, Warner and Heeman) are having a good training camp.”

The Montrose Area varsity football team is comprised of seniors Heeman, Harder, Ely, Castrogiovanni, Lawson, Moore, Aric Curry, Adam Curry, Aaron MacNamara and Richard Parks, juniors Warner, Tompkins, Jake Blom, Eric Donovan, Dominic Lippolis, Casey Nickerson, Chad Swift, David Maxey and Brett Shelp and sophomores Kevin Bruno, McCade Calloway, Ausin Cook, Cameron Crocker, Adam Curry, Dukes Silas, Bryce Fair, Jack Fruehan, AJ Gardner, Josh Giles, Billy Hewes, Joel Kline, Matt Legg, Justin Loomis, Patrick Parks, Robert Purdy, Steve Shelp, Ryan Stetson, Make Vaness and Bryce Warner.
