Work release inmate charged with escape

A 44-year-old Hallstead man serving an eight month prison sentence for bad checks, now faces escape charges.

Michael Mudge failed to return to the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility Friday after leaving the jail for his court approved work release.

Mudge was taken into custody by Pennsylvania State Police Sunday, Aug. 24, after a brief foot chase behind the Great BendEMSbuilding.

He was on court approved work release as a self-employed individual to work at several stone quarries in the county.

Following his apprehension by police, Mudge was transported back to the county jail.

Escape charges were filed by Tpr. Robert Romanaskas in Montrose District Court. Mudge has not yet been arraigned on the count and no preliminary hearing date has been set.
