Locals compete in Commissioners’ race

Cross country athletes from Susquehanna and Blue Ridge competed in the Lackawanna County Commissioners Invitational at McDade Park in Scrantonon Saturday with Blue Ridge’s Jake Hinkley taking fifth in the boys’ race and Susquehanna’s Ivy Christenson taking fifth in the girls’ race.

Hinkley, a senior, placed fifth in 17:17, while Holy Cross’ Rico Galassi took first at16:21on the 3.1 mile course.

Blue Ridge ended up sixth in the team standings at 227 while North Pocono captured the varsity boys team title with 96 points. Susquehanna’s boys were 16th in the team standings at 445.

Other top local finishes included Susquehanna’s Brandon Soden in 15th at17:55.

In the varsity girls race, Christensen finished fifth in 21:03 while Wyoming Valley West senior Alexandria Plant was the individual winner in19:29.

The Lady Sabers finished 10th in the team standings with 236 points as Pittston Area took first overall at 74 points.
