New Milford shooting case heads to trial

The attempted homicide trial for a New Milford man is slated to go to trial in Susquehanna County Court in November.

Jason Aronowitz, 43, allegedly fired two shots at close range into the stomach area of Michael Reid outside a New Milford bar on May 20, 2011.

Aronowitz appeared in court Tuesday morning, now represented by attorney Frederick Meagher Jr., regarding a pre-trial motion filed by District Attorney Jason Legg. Legg said he plans to question prospective jurors about their views on self-defense.

In addition to the attempted homicide count, Aronowitz also has been charged with aggravated assault; firearms not to be carried without a license; flight to avoid apprehension; possession of an instrument of crime; and aggravated assault.

Reid survived the shooting but, according to District Attorney Jason Legg in the preliminary hearing, sustained major injuries – losing parts of his stomach, liver and pancreas.

Aronowitz is being held on $1 million bail, or 10 percent cash equivalent.
