Two killed in I-81 crash


Two New Jersey men were killed in a crash on Interstate 81 in Harford Twp. early Sunday morning, Oct. 14.

The men killed were identified as Richard Montano, 20, and Julius Ignacio, 21, both of Union, N.J., Both were ejected from the vehicle. Police identified Montano as the driver.

Montano was transported to CMC, Scranton, and later died there.

Ignacio was pronounced dead at the scene.

Susquehanna County Coroner Anthony Conarton said Ignacio’s death was caused by multiple blunt force trauma directly related to the motor vehicle crash.

The southbound vehicle left the west side of the highway, climbed a steep embankment and then rolled several times before coming to rest back in the travel lanes.

Three other men were traveling in the vehicle: Ian Oliveira, 19, Union, N.J.; Michael Piazza, 19, Lawrenceville, N.J.; and Nathanial Fernado, 19, Union, N.J.
