The 2012 Woman of the Year for the Nellie Jane DeWitt Business and Professional Women’s Club turned out to be Women of the Year who have served the club for many years.

The honorees were Ethel Ambagais, who joined in 1978, Betty Koscelnak, who joined in 1970, and Pricilla Heller who was a member many years ago and re-joined in 1991.

Program Chairman Darlene Slocum, assisted by Alice Deutsch, presented each Woman of the Year with a yellow rose, a plaque and a mug with inscription that was said to exemplify that member being honored.

Deutsch related the many contributions these three ladies had made to the club and recounted the many occasions they represented the club at national, state and district conventions and conferences.

The three being honored were also given an opportunity to tell the highlights of their years with BPW.

Past District Director Lori Hubal praised the members being honored and also told of all the good times they had enjoyed together.

For many years Kpscelnak served a scrapbook chairman, bringing many awards back to the club for her efforts. Slocum showed her “Work of Art” scrapbook Kpscelnak had made to the other members.

During the business meeting conducted by President Colleen Wilkes, Lori Hubal gave a report on the District Conference held in October in Berwick.

Linda Bedford, chair for the club’s Spa Day at the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center, reported the great time members and guests had at that annual event.

The next meeting, the club’s 57th birthday party, will be held on Nov. 15 at Bill’s Hilltop. Any former member is invited to attend with reservations being taken by Chair Helen Foster at 853-9077.
