Lady Meteors drop opener
The Montrose Area girls’ basketball team dropped its opener to Valley View on the road Friday night, 44-32.
The Meteors were outscored by Valley View 10-4 in the first quarter and 12-3 in the second to see themselves at a 22-7 deficit at halftime.
In the third quarter, Montrose rallied to pace Valley View, 13-10, but after both teams scored 12 in the fourth, Valley View held on to win.
Myra Lattimore led the Meteors with 10 points while Meghan Gilhool scored nine and Morgan Groover added six.
The Forest City girls’ basketball team was handed a 43-34 loss from Lakeland at home on Friday night in the team’s season opener.
Forest City saw Lakeland take a 10-5 advantage after the first quarter. The Chiefs then went on to post an 11-4 run in the second to hold a 21-9 advantage at the half.
The Foresters were then outscored 14-11 in the third and despite a 14-3 rally in the fourth, the Lady Chiefs took the win.
Cassandra Bendyk scored a game-high 19 points to lead Forest City while Michaela Martines added 10 points and Katie Zembrzycki added two.
Mountain View’s girls’ basketball team faced an 80-40 loss from Holy Cross in its season opener on Friday night.
The Crusaders took an early lead, outscoring Mountain View 21-10 in the first and 23-12 in the second to hold a 44-22 lead at the half.
In the second half, Holy Cross paced Mountain View 23-12 in the third and 13-6 in the fourth to take the win.
Mountain View was led by Makenna Whitaker with 18 points while Caitlyn Tague had six points. Vic Sterling and Megan Getz each scored five.
The Blue Ridge girls’ basketball team faced a 54-10 loss from Sayre on the road on Friday night.
Sayre paced the Raiders 13-2 in the first and 10-2 in the second to hold a 23-4 lead at the half.
In the second half, Sayre went on a 20-2 run in the third and an 11-4 run in the fourth to take the win.
Dakota Radakovich led Blue Ridge with four points while J. Bennett had two points.
