Lady Meteors claim Reddon Memorial

The Lady Meteors of Montrose beat out host Elk Lake, 50-32, to take the championship game of the Denise Reddon Christmas Tournament in Montrose on Sunday.

Both teams were slow to get points on the board in the first quarter, but Montrose jumped out to a commanding 12-point lead at the half, and although scrappy, Elk Lake couldn’t chisel away at the lead.

The Lady Meteors were paced by Myra Lattimore with 15, Nicki Lewis with 11 and Meghan Gilhool with 10, while Elk Lake was led by Casey Tyler’s 16.

Montrose is now 2-5, and Elk Lake 2-3.

In the consolation game, Susquehanna edged Blue Ridge, 40-37. Mashawna Hargett scored half of the Lady Sabers points while Jenna Rupakus led the Red Raiders with 12.

Susquehanna is now 2-5 and Blue Ridge is 0-7.

First Round Action

The Elk Lake girls’ picked up a 57-19 victory over Blue Ridge in the first round of action in Dimock on Friday, while Montrose handed Susquehanna a 49-24 loss.

The Warriors got ahead of Blue Ridge quickly as they outscored them 15-5 in the first and 14-6 in the second to hold a 29-11 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Warriors led the way 15-3 in the third and 13-5 in the fourth to cap the victory.

Taylor Watkins and Casey Tyler each scored 11 to lead the Lady Warriors.

Jenna Rupakus led Blue Ridge with six points.

The Lady Meteors got an early lead on Susquehanna on Friday as they paced the Sabers 7-6 in the first and 14-5 in the second to have a 21-11 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Meteor girls outscored the Sabers 20-8 in the third and 8-5 in the fourth to take the win.

Morgan Groover scored 16 points and Meghan Gilhool added 12 and Myra Lattimore had 10 points for Montrose.

Mashawna Hargett led Susquehanna with 16 points while Amber Dubanowitz had four and Emily Carmody had three.
