Playoff picture takes shape
Varsity sports teams from Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, Forest City, Montrose Area, Mountain View and Susquehanna will begin their run into the District II playoffs this week.
In boys’ Class AA action, Elk Lake enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed after locking down the Lackawanna League Division IV title last week. The Warriors will open playoffs at home on Wednesday against No. 14 seeded Lakeland at 7 p.m.
If they win, the Warriors will face the winner of No. 6 Dunmore and No. 11 Hanover on Saturday.
Montrose Area, the No. 5 seed, will battle No. 12 seeded Blue Ridge at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The winner faces the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 13 seed Mountain View at No. 4 seed Mid Valley at Mid Valley at 7 p.m.
In boys’ Class A action, No. 1 seed Susquehanna will take on No. 4 seed MMI Prep at home on Friday at 6 p.m. No. 3 seed Forest City will travel to Valley View to face No. 2 seed Old Forge on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m. The winners of the two games will face each other in the Class A finals on Mar. 1.
In girls’ Class AA action, No. 1 seeded Montrose Area receives a bye in the first round and will face the winner of the Tuesday night game between No. 9 Mountain View at No. 8 Lakeland on Friday at a place and time to be announced.
No. 5 Elk Lake took on No. 12 seed Wyoming Seminary at home on Tuesday night. Results were not available at press time. If the Warriors win, they play the winner of No. 4 Dunmore and No. 13 Carbondale on Friday night.
No. 15 seed Blue Ridge took on No. 2 seed GAR on the road on Tuesday night. If they win, the Raiders will take on the winner of Tuesday’s game between No. 7 Hanover and No. 10 Lackawanna Trail on Friday.
In Class A action, No. 2 seeded Forest City will battle No. 1 seed Old Forge in the District II Class A championship on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Valley View.
On Friday, Blue Ridge, Elk Lake and Montrose Area will travel to Lake-Lehman High School for the District II Class AA individual championship beginning at 5 p.m. with action resuming on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Swimming and Diving
Elk Lake will travel to Wilkes-Barre CYC on Saturday, Feb. 23, to compete in the District II Class AA diving championship starting at 10 a.m.
On Friday, Mar. 1, Elk Lake will travel to the Wilkes-Barre CYC to compete in the District II Class AA swimming championship beginning at 12 p.m., and continuing at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 2.
