Elk Lake stages “Dressed to Kill”

Ready for a silly who-done-it?
The Elk Lake Drama Club is back with “Dressed to Kill,” a fashion industry murder mystery, with shows this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
The plot: life is not easy for a fashion designer trying to needle her way into a house of haute couture. Alexandra Daniels, better known as Lexie, is stuck stitching at the famous House of Van Gore, where her friend, Mona works in the stockroom and yearns for her big break on Broadway. Although the fashions they construct are colorful, their lives are dull.
Then, the late Tor Van Gore makes a spirit’s visit in angel/ghost form, and requests the two help him solve his murder.
They only half-heartedly agree until the body of Miss Rushton, secretary, is found in the workroom.
Now, Lexie and Mona must find the killer, or be the next victims.
The show is directed by Ina Bradish, with assistant director Rita Spila, and technical director Melanie Transue. Paintings on the set are by Rachel Saint Pierre.
Bradish said that the play has similar elements to the popular “Who Poisoned His Meatball?” staged two years ago, and that it was a simple feat to cast, with the drama club talent available.
Haley Skinner and Sam Stevens are loyal drama club members with hopeful, engaging roles; Kevin Burns has risen to the lead male roles at Elk Lake, but is cast as a dead man seeking answers in his own death.
According to cast member and senior Veronica Head, the really cool part of the play is the character of Mr. Van Gore, who is a ghost visible only to us, which is a really unique plot twist and adds humor.”
And she adds, “Samantha Stevens and Haley Skinner are always fun to watch.”
Head also notes that Chris Kinder, a seventh grader, is doing a good job as Jasper Jacobs, who ‘my character is in cohorts with. He shows a lot of natural ability for his first time on stage.”
