Moosic Mets win tournament

WGSIMoosicMetsJPGThe Moosic Mets U17 baseball team won the Battle at the Border in Port Chester, N.Y.

The Mets had to play six games in two days to capture the 2013 crown.

The team finished 6-0 on the weekend outlasting the New Jersey Marlins, 5-3, in a hard-fought championship game.

The pitching staff combined for a 1.80 ERA throughout the tournament, featuring the top 32 travel teams in the country.

Joey Baran (Hazleton Area) was named Tournament MVP with Nick Dudock (Elk Lake), Ryan Hogan (Wyoming Valley West) and Mike Sulcoski (Hanover Area) receiving All-Tournament Team honors.

The Moosic Mets are among Northeastern Pennsylvania’s leading travel baseball programs with 23 players drafted by pro baseball teams, seven players active on professional rosters and scores of former players receiving baseball scholarships.

The summer and fall high school teams showcase premier area players to top college and professional scouts throughout the northeast, east, central, mid and southern states in all top tournaments.
