A summer music camp hosted by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Montrose returns every summer to kick off vacation with some tuneful fun.

Held the first week after the last day of school in Montrose, the program culminated in a concert at Montrose Area High School on Friday night.

The camp began as a vacation Bible school at St. Paul’s, but the church switched track to a music camp to take advantage of local talent, provide an enjoyable experience for community kids, and give the congregation and Montrose community some high quality music programs.

The mornings are spent in various musical learning activities, and children learn popular, patriotic and sacred songs. A little instruction in harmony, dynamics, and rhythm is part of the mix, along with lots of refreshment and fun.

The concert featured several groups, devided by age, each with its own director, including Sarah Birchard and Tom Welch.

There were also two hand bell choirs for younger and older participants, directed by Anne Lathrop.
John Puzo led the entire throng of combined groups in rhythmic street percussion.
