Taxes up in Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge School District taxpayers will see a 1.1 mill increase in their tax bills, raising the property tax to 46.99 mills from last year’s 45.89 mills.

The board approved the final 2013-14 general fund budget of $16,995,707 at a June 24 meeting.

Blue Ridge’s Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion for 2013 is $7,951, according to District Business Manager Loren Small. The amount changed on Friday, Small said, up from the $7930.88 approved by the board at the meeting.

Property owners receiving the full exclusion will see a savings of $373.62 off their tax bills.

The board also approved the acceptance of installment payments for the 2013 real estate tax bills. Both business owners and home owners can take advantage of the installment payment option.

The position of Attendance Officer Coordinator – held by Lynn Parker – was eliminated by the board, effective July 1.

In other business, the board approved bids for general supplies; custodial supplies; bread product suppliers; and milk products for the upcoming school term.

The next meeting will be held Monday, July 15, 7:30 p.m., in the school cafeteria.
