Ross grabs first in time trials

A 29-year-old Philadelphia man took top spot in Saturday’s Pennsylvania State Individual Time Trial Championships held in Nicholson.
The course started about 100 yards north of the Nicholson Valero station with a backdrop of the huge Tunkhannock Creek Viaduct, and extended north up Rt. 11 for a little over 12 miles (or 20 kilometers) and back.
Brett Kielick, representing Breakaway Bikes out of Philadelphia, finished the course in 53minutes and 22 seconds, about 9 seconds faster than his 2011 pace when he took third.
Second place this time went to Jonathan D.’Alba, also of Philadelphia, and representing Kelly Benefit Strategies/LSV, whose 53:59 was 37 seconds off the winning pace.

Brenda Novak, one of the organizers of the time trial noted that only Pennsylvania residents were eligible to compete for state titles, even though a number of out-of-staters participated in the race Sunday.
