SCCTC to add LPN distance learning with Mansfield

The Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center’s board of directors was informed Thursday about the career center’s new agreement with Mansfield University.
The SCCTC has been developing a Licensed Practical Nursing Program, and the contract approved with Mansfield was for distance learning for the LPN program.
Superintendent William B. Bush informed the board about the Mansfield program in the absence of SCCTC administrative director Alice Davis, who is attending a conference.
Bush said that the cost of data equipment required for the program is estimated at $74,777. The cost of additional instructors will be about $100,000. The equipment will be a one time expense, he said.
“The revenue for the first 15 students will be $100,000,but I believe we will have more than that, and many more classes, Bush said. “It has been a team effort with Mansfield.”
Anne Teel was appointed as the PSBA voting delegate for the Career Center.
Eric Emmerich was the previous voting delegate, but said he cannot continue in this role.

SCCTC Administrative Director Alice Davis and High School Principal Brian Mallery were at the Making Schools Work Conference and unable to attend the board meetings.
Bush said that he attended a seminar on online education programs earlier Thursday.
Bush announced that the Community Foundation has added two new grant programs for SCCTC students. One of these will provide ten $1000 per year scholarships for qualifying career center students.
“This is a great opportunity for our kids,” he said.
There was a correction made concerning the contract for LPN supervisors. They will be paid at $30 per hour, not $34 as was previously stated.
Budget items for board approval included welding supply bids, automotive tool kits, and a contract with RoData for distance learning equipment.
Several bills were approved for the House # 3 project, incuding interior door and hinges for $80.33, Masters ready mixed concrete for sidewalks at $407.50, and toilets from R. J. Walker Co. as well as a heating system at $883.78.
The massage therapy program proposed for adult SCCTC students will be discussed at the Aug. 16 meeting.
An executive session was held on July 10 for personnel matters, and another was held prior to Thursday’s meeting which was also for personnel issues.
