Susquehanna Community High School graduate Brianne Bianco was awarded the Susquehanna County Council of Republican Women’s 2013 scholarship and invited to attend the SCCRW’s summer picnic.
Held at the Green Gables on Thursday evening, July 18, Brianne was introduced by State Senator Lisa Baker. The winner selected Senator Baker as the focus of her essay, calling her someone to admire. As the senator reviewed Brianne’s accomplishments during her high school career, those attending were given reasons to admire the scholarship winner and to wish her well as she pursues her nursing studies at Marywood.
Republican Women’s president Marion O’Malley introduced District Attorney Jason Legg who said grace and Prothonotary Susan Eddleston who led the pledge to the flag. Following the picnic supper, prepared and served by the staff at Green Gables, O’Malley continued by recognizing elected officials of the county as well as neighboring counties.
Other than Legg, Eddleston and Sen. Lisa Baker, O’Malley introduced Rep. Tina Pickett; Commissioner Alan Hall; Register and Recorder Mary Evans; Republican County Chairman Mike Redding; State Committee Dianne Burman; C-Club President Ray Smith; Young Republicans President and County Committee Treasurer Matt Fearnly; County Committee Secretary Craig Benson; and former State Republican Women President Carol Masters; County Treasurer Cathy Benedict; Sheriff Lance Benedict; Coroner Tony Conarton. Also attending were Republican Women from neighboring counties, Wayne, Wyoming and Bradford.
State Rep. Sandra Major was unable to attend the event.
