Poor weather ruins football trip

A rainout spoiled Montrose Area football team’s visit to the New York Giants training camp in East Rutherford, N.J. Thursday.

Montrose head coach Russ Canevari and members of the booster club had planned the trip for the varsity and junior varsity players to tour the Giants’ facilities, as well as meet with former Montrose Area graduate and Giants right guard, Chris Snee.

“Chris has spoken to our team in the past so we were hoping we’d be able to meet up with him again,” Canevari said. “This was our first time running a trip like this so it’s disappointing that it didn’t get to happen.”

Canevari had planned for his players to attend training camp, held across from MetLife Stadium at the Timex Performance Center, and to meet up with Snee afterward.

However, once training camp was cancelled due to rain, so too was a meeting with Snee.

The team also attempted for a tour of MetLife Stadium, but was denied access because a scheduled appointment was needed.

Montrose’s varsity team is slated to begin play on Aug. 17.

Snee is currently on the Giants physically unable to perform list as he continues to recover from hip surgery, but plans to return at some point during training camp.
