Elliots host picnic for Pickett
BY HELEN B. FOSTER
It has been 12 years since State Rep. Tina Pickett was first hosted at a barbecue by Tom and Diane Elliott at their Bradford County farm outside Towanda.
The annual event continued on Saturday, Aug. 17, under a beautiful summer sky that saw family and friends of the legislator gather once more for a casual afternoon of good food and good fellowship.
Pickett represents residents of Bradford, Sullivan and Susquehanna counties and is no stranger to the party faithful who attend events in all three counties.
The barbecue is an opportunity for all to get together for a “meet and greet” and exchange ideas and opinions.
This year a candidate for a Superior Court judgeship, Vic Stabile, attended along with local candidates from all three counties making up Pickett’s district.
Dairy Princess Lu-Anne Antisdel who has been involved with the Troy Fair and selected Fair Queen in 2011 spent the afternoon distributing cheese treats.
Acting as master of ceremonies, Tom Elliott introduced Pickett who thanked everyone for attending and bringing donations of non-perishable food for the Ronald McDonald House in Danville.
“Be proud of your heritage and your family farms and your family values,” she said.
She also had the pleasure of presenting a citation to a local couple for their celebration of 65 years of marriage. All veterans were also recognized and thanked for their service.
One happy young girl took home a bike while others, also included in a drawing, received prizes. This drawing was exclusively for the younger people enjoying the afternoon.
