Eagles eying record books

The Mountain View boys’ soccer team rolled to a 16-0 shutout win at Old Forge Tuesday to finish the regular season undefeated at 11-0.

Colby Thomas had four goals, including the 150th of his career, and Zeb Cross added two goals and four assists for the Eagles, who have outscored their opponents 91-4 this season.

Ed Bognatz also added three goals and an assist and Marco Gonzalez chipped in with a goal and assist in the win.

Bob Pfahl had one save for the Eagles defense, which hasn’t allowed a goal in five games.

Thomas’ 150 career goals put him in 8th place on the all-time scoring list in Pennsylvania with games still remaining. His 55 goals last season put him in 13th place overall.

Cross earned 42 assists last season, which ranked him in 6th place all-time for assists in a season in the state of Pennsylvania. He has more than 75 assists in his three year career, placing him in 13th place all-time with games still remaining.

MONTROSE
The Meteors lost 3-0 to Scranton Prep Monday in the Lackawanna League boys soccer District 2 play-in game and have been eliminated from playoff contention.

The Meteors had won 6-0 in the District 2 Class AA soccer-play-in game over Western Wayne Friday to advance, and had won 3-1 over Riverside on the road Tuesday in their final regular season game. Montrose finished the season with a 10-3 overall record.

Against Prep, the game remained scoreless until the second half when the Cavaliers knocked in three goals.

Justin Hartman had six saves in the loss.

On Friday, the Meteors struck early and often and got big games from Matt Lewis and Kyle Watkins to advance to Monday’s contest against Scranton Prep.
Lewis scored three goals and assisted on Watkins’s goal, which came just 33 seconds into the game. Watkins also had two assists for the Meteors, who led 4-0 by halftime. Hartman had eight saves in the net in the win.

ELK LAKE
The Elk Lake boys’ soccer team blanked Carbondale, 9-0, at home Tuesday to improve to 7-3-1 overall this season.

Tyler Arnold had two goals and Blake Chew had a goal and two assists to lead the Warriors. Tanner Reyan also chipped in with a goal and an assist and Ben Woolcock, Alex Manzek and Jason Vasquez all added goals in the win.

Nick Dudock and Hunter Watkins had four and two saves respectively in the net, and both added a goal apiece for Elk Lake.

FOREST CITY
The Foresters scored the go-ahead goal in the 75th minute off the foot of Alex Kresock to win 3-2 at home over Blue Ridge in Lackawanna League Division III boys’ soccer action Tuesday.

Logan McHale got the scoring started with a goal in the 28th minute and Codie Barrese followed in the 37th minute to put Forest City up 2-0 in the first half.

Brad Palmatier had six saves for the Foresters, who improved to 6-5 on the year.

BLUE RIDGE
The Raiders lost 1-0 to Mid Valley at home Friday and 3-2 to Forest City on the road Tuesday and finished the season at 3-9 overall.

The Red Raiders gave up a second half goal to Mid Valley and were unable to answer offensively the remainder of the game.

Brad Palmatier had 13 saves in the loss.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, Matt Hugaboom cut into the lead with a goal in the 61st minute off an assist from Brandon Rafferty, who followed with a goal of his own 13 minutes later, but the Foresters answered with a goal in the 75th minute that proved the game winner.
Palmatier had six saves for Blue Ridge.
