Lackawanna Trail finally got back on the winning track.
Snapping its four-game losing streak, the Lions shut out Montrose 34-0 at home Friday night in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division III game.
The Meteors fell to 1-8 with the loss.
“The last month has been rough for us,” Lackawanna Trail coach Steve Jervis said. “It’s nice to see us get back in the win column.”
After a scoreless first quarter, Lackawanna Trail (5-4 overall, 1-3 in division) took the lead on a 78-yard scoring drive that ended with a Jonathan Zedar 5-yard run with 4:20 left in the second quarter.
Late in the half, Lackawanna Trail linebacker Jared Phillips blocked a Montrose punt that was recovered by Tyler Baltrusaitis at the Montrose 20-yard line.
Three plays later, quarterback Vic Mallory hit Cooper Rosiak for a 13-yard score and a 14-0 lead with 56 seconds left in the first half.
In the third quarter, Mallory extended the Lackawanna Trail lead when he hit Matt Harris on a deep sideline pass for a 50-yard touchdown that gave Lackawanna Trail a 21-0 lead.
Mallory surpassed 1,000 yards passing on the season, throwing for 238 yards in the game and two touchdowns.
Rosiak set up the next scoring drive with a 25-yard punt return to the Montrose 30-yard line.
Four plays later, Zedar scored his second touchdown on a 10-yard run to give the Lions a 27-0 lead with 9:08 left in the fourth.
Rosiak finished with six receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown and also added an interception.
Coming off more than 200 yards rushing last week against Holy Cross, Bill Hewes was held to just 71 yards on the ground as Trail’s defense allowed only 52 total yards of offense in the second half.
Montrose will play its final game of the season at Northwest Area this Friday.
