Third year coach Lawrence Tompkins heads the Susquehanna Sabers varsity boys’ basketball team led by returning starting guard, Brandon Soden.

Last year, the Sabers had a winning record of 13-11 overall (6-6 in division play); they were the runner-up in District II Class A.

Coach Tomkins said, “We have a team that is deep enough to play 9-12 players early in the season. That competition for playing time should create for an intense day-to-day environment where the players are willing to work hard.”

He and his assistant coaches, Richard Emmons and David Bell would like to see their team compete for a district championship.

The 2013-2014 Varsity Sabers are: Josh Wheeler (G), Mark Zappe (F), Cody Towers (G), Steve Frye (F), Kyle MacDonald (G), Nate Carpenter (F), Christian Miller (F), Austin Felter (G), Luke Falletta (G/F), Kasey Burdick (G), Brady Towner (G), and Tyler Williams (G).

The Meteors hope to improve on their 13-11 record from last year and further their district play-off run past the quarter finals reached in 2012-13 season.

Coach Madden said, “With all the returning starters and experience on the floor this year we have coming back, I am expecting us to contend for a league title and hopefully make a run at districts.”

Other Meteors on the Varsity roster are: Jack Fruehan, Frank Fruehan, Austin Smith, Justin Richel, Mason Peck and Justin Hartman.

“We are just going to try to get better and better each game. We need to practice at our full potential to be able to reach our goals.” Madden said.
