Lady Foresters fall to Riverside

Riverside’s Madison Haduck had to change her jersey at halftime in a game against Forest City because it was spattered with blood.

The senior led the ninth-ranked Lady Vikes in every category as Riverside bested Forest City, 61-43, in a nonleague girls’ game Thursday, Dec. 12.

“Our players really complement each other and you can see how unselfish they are,” Riverside coach Jack Mekilo said. “They make the extra pass. We have a lot of parts and they fit together pretty well.

“I think we have a lot of options offensively and I think we look a little different than we have in the past. We’re definitely more athletic and it’s exciting. They’re going to have success.”

So, in time, will Forest City, according to first-year head coach Natalie Winters.

“I think most important is once we get our defense going, it’s going to start to come together,” Winters said. “I think we’re still meshing. They’re learning a brand-new system. It’s a new year for everybody.

“From what I’ve seen, when our defense gets going, that’s when everything comes together. I try to preach, score and stop, score and stop. Defense is the most important thing.”

Cassandra Bendyk led Forest City with 15 points, Madison McGraw added 12 and Carly Erdmann scored 11.
