Blue Ridge gears up for showdown

Once again the Blue Ridge wrestling team came home with a second place finish – this time the Raiders took second at the Lackawanna Trail Dual meet.

GAR finished 5-0 to win the eight-team Lackawanna Trail Dual Meet. Blue Ridge finished second at 4-1 while the hosts and Scranton Prep were both 3-2.

Team standings: GAR 5-0; Blue Ridge 4-1; Lackawanna Trail 3-2; Scranton Prep 3-2; Nanticoke 2-3; Montrose 2-3; Elk Lake 1-4; Mountain View 0-5.
On Wednesday (Jan. 22), Blue Ridge is set for a Division II showdown with Western Wayne – a team that has won the past four championships.

Since the beginning of the 2009-10 season, the Wildcats (1-0) have won 27 consecutive league matches. Their last loss came at the hands of Scranton Prep, a 51-22 setback on Jan. 21, 2009, the last year they failed to finish atop the division standings.

Last season, Western Wayne handed Blue Ridge its only league loss, 55-16. But the Raiders (3-0) received strong consideration from coaches to be preseason division favorites.
