Lady Meteors strike down Mt. View

The Mountain View Lady Eagles traveled to Montrose to take on the Lady Meteors on Monday, Jan. 13 with Montrose taking the win, 58-32.
From the tip-off Montrose took charge of the game with Myra Lattimore scoring 12 points, including two 3-pointers in the first quarter.

Mountain View’s Makenna Whitaker put up the first of her three 3-pointers of the game and Lady Meteors.

Meghan Gilhool added another 3 point shot for Montrose to end the first quarter with a score of 19-9 in favor of Montrose.

Whitaker popped in another 3 pointer in the second quarter, but other than a foul shot made by Megan Getz that was all points that the Lady Eagles could put on the score board in the second quarter.

The Lady Meteors continued as they had in the first quarter scoring 17 more points; four more by Lattimore and Gilhool, and six put in by Morgan Groover who also blocked two shots on defense. Angela Russell was two for two on foul shots giving the Lady Meteors a 37- 13 lead at half time.

Consistency was the name of the game for Montrose, who came back after the half, scoring 17 points in the third quarter.

Gilhool made another 3-pointer while teammate, Fallon Gurn, added eight points and had two steals. Nicki Lewis made two foul shots and Russell put in another bucket.

The Lady Eagles doubled their second quarter score by getting eight points in the third quarter. Getz and Whitaker made four points each to end the third quarter to leave Mountain View with a 33 point deficit.

Montrose coach Al Smith pulled his varsity team, with the exception of Russell, and replaced them with the junior varsity team who got some quality playing time against the Lady Eagles for the majority of the fourth quarter.

Mountain View took advantage and scored 11 points to Montrose’s four points.

Whitaker made her final 3-pointer and added another basket; Getz added four more points; and Samantha Krisa also added a bucket for the Lady Eagles.
Montrose’s four points all came from the foul line; the first by Lattimore, two by Kourtney Snigar, and one from Felicia Quinn.

The high scorer for the Meteors was Lattimore with 17 points, followed by Gilhool with 16. Whitaker led the Eagles with 15 points, followed by Getz with 13.

JV score: Montrose 32, Mountain View 11
