Mountain View grabbed the division title last season and, with five starters returning, the coaches selected it the favorite to do so again.

“I think just like any baseball team, the key is pitching,” Eagles coach Ernest Griffis said. “I think we’re going to hit. As long as the pitching holds up, we’re going to come in with a positive record and hopefully take down the league and play for a district title.”

Division IV Player of the Year and All-Region selection Dylan Thomas is gone to graduation, but junior Chris White and senior Colby Thomas appear ready to replace him on the mound. White went 4-0 with a 2.58 ERA and 48 strikeouts last season.

Griffis said he expects the Eagles to battle Lackawanna Trail and Montrose for the top spot in the standings.

“I think you have some other programs in our league that are up-and-coming as well, with some new coaching, and they’re just young right now,” he said. “But ever since I’ve been at Mountain View, it’s Trail, Montrose, Mountain View, and who’s going to take it down. It’s always some great battles.”

Elk Lake adds new coach Tony Rezykowski to the mix.
